Dawn

I never knew how a CGM would have such a positive impact on my life. The best thing about it is how it monitors my blood sugar overnight while I am sleeping and will alert me if my blood sugar is rising or falling to a dangerous number.

The ability to check my glucose level in an instant is so helpful to reduce the worry of a low while in a meeting, going for a walk or just being anywhere where it is less than ideal to check my blood sugar.

CGM sensor on body

What is CGM?

Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) systems track glucose levels, every few minutes, 24/7 through a tiny sensor inserted under your skin, either on your belly or arm using an automatic inserter. The sensor measures your interstitial glucose level, which is the glucose found in the fluid between the cells. CGM therapy can be used with or without an insulin pump.

What is smart CGM?

Smart CGM predicts future high and low sensor glucose events up to an hour in advance and provides access to information that can inform you of clinically relevant glucose patterns.

What is the Guardian Connect Smart CGM system?

The Guardian Connect continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) system is the standalone CGM system from Medtronic designed from the ground up to help serve the needs of customers on multiple daily insulin injections. Leveraging both modern mobile technology and the latest advances from Medtronic, the Guardian Connect system provides a smarter way to manage your diabetes.

How is Guardian Connect system different from other CGM systems?

The Guardian Connect system is the only CGM system with customizable predictive alerts that helps you outsmart both highs and lows. Using smart technology to predict where your glucose levels are headed, the system can alert you from 10 to 60 minutes before a high or low.

How does the Guardian Connect system help with glucose control?

The Guardian Connect CGM system allows you to track your sensor glucose trends in real-time on your compatible mobile device. The Guardian Connect app will also alert you up to an hour before a high or low. Without predictive alerts turned on, it has a 90.5% hypoglycemia detection rate (when worn on the abdomen). With predictive alerts, turned on and set at 30 minutes before a low, the Guardian Connect system had a 98.5% hypoglycemic detection rate (when worn on the abdomen. Do I need a prescription for Guardian Connect CGM system?

In the U.S., customers will need a prescription from their physician for the Guardian Connect system. (While anyone can download the Guardian Connect app, it will not function without being paired to a Guardian transmitter.)

Will my insurance cover this CGM?

When will the Guardian Connect CGM system be available for pediatric customers?

The Guardian Connect system is currently indicated for use in customers age 14-75.

What smart device models are compatible with the Guardian Connect continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) system?

The Guardian Connect system compatibility information can be found by visiting Guardian Connect FAQs.

You should confirm compatibility with the Guardian Connect system using this link before updating your operating system.

Does the Guardian Connect system integrate with Medtronic insulin pump systems as well?

The transmitter used with the pump system is different and doesn't have Bluetooth® connectivity so it isn't compatible with the Guardian Connect app. The MiniMed 600-series pumps use the Guardian Link 3 transmitter, which uses a different wireless technology to communicate with the pump. The transmitter shell for the Guardian Connect system also has a "GC" etched on the surface opposed to the pump system transmitter shell, which just has a "G."
